Kill X MOB's in X

I was doing a quest in the Lone Lands last night that involved gathering lynx meat and boar tusks (or something like that) in a specific area. The lynx's were easy because they were all over the place, but the boars were no where to be found. I realize that they share spawn tables with other MOB's, so I was killing everything in sight. Still, no boars! I eventually found an area that bordered the Weather Hills where some boars regularly spawned. Of course, they were in the wrong area, so I had to kite them to the right area before I killed them. If not, they wouldn't drop the quest item. After I did this 10-15 times, I finally had my tusks. It was kind of funny and frustrating at the same time. Has anyone else had problems with rare spawns that really shouldn't be rare or just never spawned in the right area?

I've noticed that a lot of mobs all over Middle-Earth share spawn points. I guess it's to make variations in the game, and to keep players from just waiting for respawn to get their quests done.
As for the tusks, I completed all tusk quests North of the Forsaken Inn and North East of the Weathertop. Even the stomach quest had drops there, although you're asked to kill the bigger boars to the far East of Lone-Lands.
Other quests that required me to go to a different place includes the Midgewater snappers (Staddle quest) where you were asked to defeat snappers in the South part of the marshes, while you're usually better off looking slightly South and East of the spider-infested fort.
One reason for the rare spawns in the quest-menetioned areas is that there's usually quite a few players roaming the areas for the same mobs.

I realize that people camp certain quest MOB's and that's part of why I was killing everything in sight. The campers usually just kill what they need, which creates a problem when it's a shared spawn table and eventually nothing needs to spawn and nothing is what you're looking for. However, killing everything doesn't work unless you can control an area and keep the campers out. Pretty much impossible unless you find an area off the beaten path. I tried killing boars in other areas and they just wouldn't drop the quest tusks. I tested this by killing at a spawn point on the bordering area, then kiting 20-30 feet from the same exact spawn point. Don't even get me started on Wargs, heh. Those things are as bad as the Vicious Bears in Erid Luin - practically extinct. Maybe I'm just unlucky. After all, I never can seem to win a roll, except for medium hides - bleh.

I got Ost Guruth quest drops from the Wargs in Minas something (I think). The place South East of Forsaken Inn. Same place as the ancient rubble and stuff.

That's awesome since I still need to do this quest for my Champion and she's only level 21. Obviously I can't go up against those Wargs around Ost Guruth. Thanks for the info BB!

I think that it's funny that in every zone, we have to do the exact same quests. Example - "Go collect 15 boar hides." Then when you get back to cash the quest, you get another one that reads, "Go collect 20 Boar Tusks." After you complete that one, you get the last quest which says, "Go kill 20 boars, and the boar leader." Seriously... we need variation, or the option to get all of the boar killing quests at once.

Just finished Well Prepared, which is boar meat and boar stomachs. I just thought boar tusks were bad. I almost lost it trying to get boar stomachs. The drop ratio is HORRIBLE, so everyone is camping them trying to finish the quest. Low drop ratio + campers = hell. Now to do it with my other two characters. *sigh* May just skip it.

I know what you mean. I was almost done with that quest when it was orange, then I got tired of it and ended up in North Downs for a while. Yesterday I completed it and got practically nothing out of it since it was grey :/
The reason I decided to complete it was that I noticed the big ugly boars to the East had started spawning again like I haven't seen since beta. They drop the items _almost_ every time. You have to kill every bird you see to make the boars spawn more often though. Otherwise you'll stuck there for a while.
Try to fellow with a hunter next time. I do indeed appreciate the tracking skill ;)
